Willi Köchling

Willi Köchling (born October 30, 1924 in Schwerte ; † January 29, 2009 ) was a German football player .

Career

Köchling started playing football at TuS Iserlohn from the city of the same name . After he was able to draw attention to himself in a friendly match there, he was signed by Rot-Weiss Essen for the 1951/52 season . By the end of the 1959/60 season he was in the top German division at the time in 216 point games and scored five goals. He made his debut on August 19, 1951 (1st matchday) in a 2-2 draw in the away game against Borussia Dortmund , his first goal he scored on August 26, 1951 (2nd matchday) in a 5-0 win at home against the STV Horst-Emscherwith the hit to the final score in the 59th minute. He played his last league game on April 24, 1960 (30th matchday) in a 1-0 win at home against Alemannia Aachen .

As champions of the Oberliga West in 1952 , he and his team qualified for the final round of the German championship. In Group 2 he played all group games and scored his only goal in this competition in the game at VfL Osnabrück , with the goal to make it 2: 3 in the 87th minute. As runners-up in the group behind VfB Stuttgart , entry into the final was denied. When he won the DFB Cup in 1953, he played all games in the national club cup competition.

As champions of the Oberliga West in 1955 , he was again qualified with his team for the finals of the German championship. In Group 2 , he played all group games again and moved into the final against the winner of Group 1, VfB Stuttgart, as group winner.

As German champion qualified for the 1955 European Cup , he played his only two international club games in the first round against the Scottish representative Hibernian Edinburgh , who was eliminated from the competition with a 1: 5 return match.

National team

Köchling played his only international match for the senior national team on December 23, 1956 in Cologne in a 4-1 win in a friendly against the national team of Belgium .
