Willi Reiche (* 1954 in Fürth ) is a German artist who mechanically sets objects and machine components that have been collected, disused and mostly anachronistic over the years and re-staged them in a humorous way. He is a representative of kinetic art and as such was involved in the special exhibition Hommage à Tinguely in the MAG - Montreux Art Gallery in November 2016 on the occasion of the 12th Contemporary Art Fair 2016 in the Montreux Music & Convention Center (2m2c).

Reiches kinetic art machines have already been presented six times at NordArt . Several art machines were on display at The MAD (Mechanical Art & Design) Museum in Stratford-upon-Avon from 2012 to 2016 . Reiche has had an art machine hall above Remagen since May 2017 , in which his works can be viewed in motion.

Career

Reiche grew up in Upper Franconia , Bavaria , for the first five years . Because of the construction of the Mauthaus drinking water dam - also known as the Ködeltalsperre - Reich's parents were expropriated, had to leave their house in the Ködeltal and moved to Bonn . Willi Reiche went to school there and studied art history from 1975 to 1982 at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . Then he was managing director of the graphic workshop in Wachtberg until 1990 . Reiche has been artistically active since 1982, and since 1990 he has devoted himself exclusively to the fine arts . At the end of 1989 Reiche began to construct kinetic objects. His art machines are mostly driven by electric motors, but sometimes also by muscle power . The artist Willi Reiche has lived in Wachtberg since the late 1970s and works there in his metal workshop, surrounded by his considerable material pool. This workshop has already served as an extraordinary film set in several short films .

Insight into the art machine hall

A large part of his art machines is housed in the art machine hall, individually illuminated and provided with a pushbutton switch with which the machines can be set in motion individually for a time interval of several minutes. This hall can be visited by art enthusiasts and fans of kinetic art by prior arrangement.

The art machine hall in the middle of an orchard creates an atmospherically extraordinary connection between historical building and contemporary art .
