William Anders (politician)

William Anders (actually Carl Wilhelm Anders ) (born February 12, 1820 in Breslau ; † 1873 there ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life

Born as the son of a cloth maker, Anders studied philosophy and law in Wroclaw after attending the Elisabet High School . After he had already belonged to the Teutonia Breslau student association as a student in 1840 , he became a member of the Raczeks fraternity during his studies in 1841 , and he was its spokesman in the winter semester of 1843/44. After his roommate Rudolf von Gottschall was expelled from the city in 1844, Anders organized a comitat for him, whereupon he received a consilium abeundi from the university . As a result he emigrated to the USA in 1845 and worked in Houston as a lawyer and notary . At the time of the American Civil War he was Mayor of Houston from 1863 to 1865 , but returned to Wroclaw in 1866, where he worked as a lawyer.
