William Barnes (judge)

William Barnes , also William Barons , († October 10 or 11, 1505 ) was an English cleric. From 1504 to 1505 he was Bishop of London .

Life

Barnes' family was originally from Hadleigh , Suffolk . He had at least two siblings. His ecclesiastical career became apparent early on, as he had an uncle who was a priest. 1488 he became a Fellow at All Souls College of Oxford University appointed. On February 1, 1499 he received his doctorate to the Doctor of Civil Law in Bologna . 1501 he received a reputation as a professor of private law at his alma mater . On February 2, 1502, he was admitted to the Lincoln's Inn . At the same time he took over the post of Master of the Rolls . He held this until November 13, 1504. Barnes was named Bishop of London on August 2, 1504 and ordained bishop on November 26. He held this office until his death. He was buried in St Paul's Cathedral .
