William Alexander Evering Cecil, 3rd Baron Amherst of Hackney CBE OStJ (born May 31, 1912 - July 22, 1980 ) was a British peer and politician.

Life

He was the elder son of the Hon. William Cecil and the Gladys Evelyn Baggallay. When his father fell in World War I in 1914 , he became apparent heir of his paternal grandmother, Mary Cecil, 2nd Baroness Amherst of Hackney , and inherited the title of Baron Amherst of Hackney when she died in 1919 at the age of six .

He attended Eton College and completed his studies at Trinity College of Cambridge University in 1933 as a Bachelor of Arts from. He then joined the British Army and fought as a major in the Royal Horse Guards (Blues) in World War II .

After the war he took part in the debates in the House of Lords . In Hansard numerous parliamentary speeches are recorded by him.

He was named Officer of the Order of Saint John and in 1963 Commander of the Order of the British Empire .

On September 14, 1939, he married Margaret Eirene Clifton Brown (1921-2009). He had three children with her:
