William Doria

William Doria (* 1820 - October 24, 1889 in Nice ) was a British diplomat .

Life

William Doria was the son of Nicholas Dorier Marchese di Spineto (* 1774; † 1849), an interpreter. He married Mary James Scrymsoure Fothringham. Doria was appointed student attaché at the embassy at the Sublime Porte in Constantinople on November 15, 1841 . On March 19, 1845, he was promoted to third class paid attaché. On June 5, 1847, he was temporarily seconded to the embassy in Tehran. On October 19, 1852 he was promoted to second class paid attaché in Constantinople. From January to April 1855 he was on a special mission in the Danube provinces during the Crimean War.

From 24 February 1858 to December 1859 he was secretary of legation in Tehran , to 7 December where he in 1859 by 1 October 1858 charge d'affaires was. From May 4, 1860 to 1863, he was Secretary of State for the United States of Argentina in Buenos Aires . In September 1862 he was on a special mission to Asunción , Paraguay . From June 27, 1862 to December 15, 1863 he was chargé d'affaires in Buenos Aires. On June 16, 1864 he was appointed legation secretary in Hanover. In 1867 he became the secretary of the embassy in Lisbon under Lord Augustus Loftus . At the post he was temporarily chargé d'affaires. On September 25, 1872 he was Chargé d'affaires in Lisbon and negotiated in arbitration for Lourenço Marques .

William Doria was retired on August 1, 1877 .
