William Erskine, 5th Baron Erskine

William Macnaghten Erskine, 5th Baron Erskine (born January 7, 1841 in Simla , India , † December 8, 1913 in Spratton Hall , Northamptonshire ), was a British nobleman and politician .

Life

His father was John Cadwallader Erskine, 4th Baron Erskine ; his mother was Margaret, daughter of John Martyn. With the death of his father in 1882 he inherited his title of nobility and the associated seat in the House of Lords .

William Erskine was born in India when his father was serving there. After his parents returned to England, he completed his training with a law degree in Eton , after which he took over the duties of a justice of the peace . He did his military service with the 9th Royal Lancers , he ended his career as a captain .

In 1873 he was admitted to the Lincoln's Inn Bar Association and was thus authorized to serve as a barrister . This activity and the post of Deputy Lieutenant of Northamptonshire he exercised until his retirement.

He was married once. The marriage, on July 2, 1864, to Caroline Alice Martha, daughter of William Grimble, had four children:

  • Margaret (* 1866; † 1947)
  • Stuart Ruaraidh Joseph (* 1869; † 1960)
  • Esmé Standish (* 1873; † 1924)
