William Francis Claxton (born October 22, 1914 in Los Angeles County , United States , † February 11, 1996 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American editor , film director and film producer .

Live and act

Claxton began his film career after training at the editing table in the late 1930s as an assistant editor. In 1940 he was hired as an editor by the small company Edward Small Productions and remained true to this profession until the end of the same decade. After his first attempt at directing in 1948, the native Californian concentrated entirely on film directing in the early 1950s, but had to be content with producing (directing or producing) B cinema productions and commissions for television series throughout his career .

Claxton was considered an assembly line worker, and the western genre was his preferred field of work from the start. Some of his productions have become very popular, including the western series Yancy Derringer , High Chaparral , Bonanza , The Cowboys, and Our Little Farm . Claxton also directed several episodes of the dance series Fame - The Path to Fame and two episodes of An Angel on Earth with Bonanza - and Farm star Michael Landon . With the single production Bonanza - Die next Generation ( Bonanza: The Next Generation ) William F. Claxton ended his career in 1987.
