William H. McEntee (born March 8, 1857 in Almont , Michigan , † November 12, 1917 in Detroit , Michigan) was an American illustrator .

Life

William H. McEntee was the son of William Hervey McEntee (1818-1894) and Mary E. Porter McEntee (1827-1892). He married Rosa Fox McEntee (1868–1912) around 1893. He lived with her in Manhattan from 1900 . They later moved to Nassau County , New York . His wife died in 1912 at the age of 44. Both are buried next to each other in Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit .

As an illustrator, McEntee specialized in people and portraits. He studied as a pupil of William Bouguereau at the Académie Julian and exhibited at the Paris Salon. His creative period was from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. He is listed in Artists of Early Michigan and in Who Was Who in American Art: 400 years of Artists in America, Second edition . McEntee mainly created portraits of women in the typical idealizing style of the turn of the century.

A permanent collection of McEtee's works is located at the Chippewa Valley Museum.

McEntee's works are also traded in international auction houses, particularly in the United States.
