William Hallett Ray
William Hallett Ray (born May 25, 1825 in Clementsport , Nova Scotia , † May 7, 1909 ibid) was a Canadian farmer, businessman and politician. He sat in the Canadian House of Commons from 1867 to 1878 and again from 1882 to 1887 .
life and career
William Hallett Ray was born in Clementsport in the Annapolis Valley in 1825 and worked there as a farmer and merchant. In a replacement election in 1864, he was elected a member of the Nova Scotia House of Representatives for Annapolis County after James William Johnston had been appointed judge. From September 20, 1867 to September 1878 , he represented the constituency of Annapolis in the Canadian House of Commons . In the lower house election in 1882 he was re-elected. Ray was initially a member of the Anti-Confederation Party and switched to the Liberal Party in 1879 . In 1887 he was appointed a member of the Nova Scotia Legislative Council.
Ray married Henrietta Ditmars in 1848 and was a lieutenant colonel in the district militia.
He died at the age of 83 on May 7, 1909 in Clemensport.
