William "Bill" Mackey , actually William Gretsinger , (born December 15, 1927 in Dayton , † July 29, 1951 in Winchester ) was an American racing driver .

Career

Bill Mackey started in six races for the AAA National Series between 1949 and 1951 . He achieved his best result in 1951 in Darlington in a Meyer - Offenhauser as fourth.

He made his only start at the Indianapolis 500 in 1951 on a Hall - Offenhauser . He retired on lap 97 with a damage to the clutch linkage. Since this race was part of the drivers' world championship between 1950 and 1960, he was also able to start at a Grand Prix.

He was killed in a sprint car race at Winchester Speedway.
