William James Palmer (born April 19, 1882 in Windsor (Berkshire) , United Kingdom , † December 21, 1967 in Hendon , London ) was a British walker .
William Palmer, along with George Larner and his clubmate Ernest Webb, was one of the leading athletes in British sports walking. At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 , Palmer competed in both the 3,500 meters and the 10-mile competition. Both times he was able to qualify for the finals, but had to give up in both finals.
Also in 1912 in Stockholm Palmer was there. In the competition over 10,000 meters he made it to the final, but had to give up the final as four years earlier.
After his active career, William Palmer served as president of his association, the Herne Hill Harriers, from 1921 to 1922 . In 1948 he took part in the 1948 Olympic Games in London as a judge .
