William Parish Chilton Sr.

William Parish Chilton Sr. (born August 10, 1810 in Hardin County , Kentucky , † January 20, 1871 in Montgomery , Alabama ) was an American lawyer and politician .

Chilton was born in Kentucky and was the brother of Thomas Chilton , who was a member of the US House of Representatives for Kentucky . He later moved to Alabama and was elected to the House of Representatives there in 1839 . He was the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court from 1852 to 1856 . In 1859 he was a member of the Alabama Senate .

Chilton represented Alabama in the Provisional Confederate Congress and the First and Second Confederate Congresses from 1861 until the defeat of the Confederation in 1865.

The Chilton County , Alabama is named after him.
