William Wilson "Bill" Parks (born December 11, 1921 in Oak Park , † December 9, 2008 in Glenview ) was an American sailor .
successes
William Parks, who was a member of the Chicago Yacht Club , took part in the star boat at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome . Together with Robert Halperin , he finished the regatta behind Timir Pinegin and Fyodor Schutkow from the Soviet Union and the Portuguese José Manuel Quina and Mário Quina in third place, with which they received the bronze medal. He also took part in numerous world championships without placing himself among the top three teams.
Parks first graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology and worked as an engineer . In the late 1950s he also earned an MBA from the University of Chicago and worked in management at the Vapor Corporation in Chicago. Parks was also part of the editorial team for the sailing magazine One Design Yachtsman . During World War II he had served with the pioneers of the US Navy in the Philippines .
