William Smith, 4th Viscount Hambleden

William Herbert Harry Smith, 4th Viscount Hambleden (born April 2, 1930 - August 2, 2012 in Reno , Nevada ) was a British peer and politician ( Conservative Party ).

life and career

Smith was born on April 2, 1930 to William Henry Smith, 3rd Viscount Hambleden (1903-1948) and his wife Lady Patricia Herbert (1904-1994). His mother was Lady of the Bedchamber with the Queen Mother . His father was a descendant of the founder of the book and magazine chain WH Smith .

He attended Eton College .

In May 2003 the family estate was up for sale. The residence of Smith and his second wife was excluded.

Membership in the House of Lords

After the death of his father in 1948 he inherited his title Viscount Hambleden and the then associated seat in the House of Lords . He first took this on July 23, 1952. According to the Hansard, he never spoke up there.

family

Smith married Donna Maria Carmela Attolico di Adelfa, daughter of Bernardo Attolico di Adelfa, on February 21, 1955. They divorced in 1988. Together they have 5 sons: William Henry (* 1955), Bernardo James (* 1957), Alexander David (* 1959), Nicolas Robin Bartolomeo (* 1960) and Lorenzo Patrick Harold (* 1962).

On August 28, 1988, he married Lesley Watson. They lived in Dunsaller , Thorverton , Devon (as of 2003).

Most recently he suffered from cancer. Smith died on August 2, 2012 in Reno at the age of 82. His eldest son inherited the title of Viscount Hambleden .
