William Sydney Wilson

William Sydney Wilson (born November 7, 1816 in Snow Hill , Worcester County , Maryland , † November 3, 1862 ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ). He was the son of Congressman Ephraim King Wilson (1771-1834) and brother of US Senator Ephraim King Wilson (1821-1891).

William was a member of the Mississippi State Legislature from 1858 to 1859 and again from 1860 to 1861 . He also represented that state in 1860 at the Democratic National Convention . After the secession in 1861 he was elected to the Provisional Confederate Congress , but resigned after the first session on March 16, 1861. When the American Civil War broke out, he was serving in the Confederate Army with the rank of major . He was fatally wounded at the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862 and died on November 3, 1862. He was then on theMakemie Memorial Presbyterian Churchyard is buried in Snow Hill.
