Willibald Kirbes (born June 29, 1902 - † February 3, 1990 ) was an Austrian national soccer player .

Career

The winger came to Rapid from the lower class club Freiheit 14 and played his first games in the first class in the 1922/23 season , in which the club was also Austrian champions , but he only had a regular place in the team from 1925. His first title as Main participant won Willibald Kirbes with the ÖFB-Cup 1927, in which he also contributed a goal himself in the final against the district rivals Austria 3-0. In the subsequent Mitropapokal in 1928 , the Hütteldorfer reached the final. Against Ferencváros , however, it was a 7-1 in the first leg, in the second leg Willibald Kirbis quickly scored a two-for-one Rapid 2-0 in front, but the 5-3 win was ultimately too little for the title. Thanks to his good performance, the winger made his debut for the Austrian national team on May 6, 1928 under Hugo Meisl in a game against great arch-rivals Hungary in Budapest . The team managed to make up a 2: 5 deficit in the final minutes to 5: 5, Kirbes was also involved as a scorer, but it was his only team calling.

In the 1928/29 season Rapid became champions in front of Admira , in the cup final there was a close 2: 3 against Vienna , despite Kirbes goal. In the Mitropacup too, the semifinals were over. But Willibald Kirbes and his team got another chance. As the Austrian champions of the 1929/30 season, they played their way up to the final of the Mitropa Cup in 1930 . A 2-0 away against Sparta Prague laid the foundation stone, a 2: 3 on the Hohe Warte meant the Mitropacup victory, probably the greatest success in Kirbe's career as well as in Rapid history. In 1932, the winger finally moved to the second division, the Ottakringer district club FC Libertas Vienna , which he accompanied through his five years in the top division. He ended his career with the Police SV Vienna .
