Willie Applewhite

Willie Applewhite (born July 1984 in Chicago ) is an American jazz musician ( trombone , composition , arrangement ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Applewhite grew up in Harvey, Illinois , and attended Thornton Township High School. His musical studies took him to the Institute for Jazz Studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he received both his Bachelor and Master degrees. Applewhite then headed the Jazz Studies department at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah from August 2011 to May 2014 . During that time, he helped expand the music program from a two-year associate's degree to a four-year Bachelor of Commercial Music . Since then he has been active in the New York jazz scene as a music teacher, band leader and accompanying musician. a. in the Uptown Jazz Tentet. The first recordings were made in 2012 with the William Parker Orchestra ( Essence of Ellington - Live in Milano ). Currently (2019) he is a member of the Brandon Lee Quintet (with Adam Birnbaum , David Wong , Aaron Kimmel ). In the field of jazz he was involved in three recording sessions between 2012 and 2018, most recently with The Verve Jazz Ensemble ( Connect the Dots ). Applewhite lives in New York City.
