William "Willie" Russell Geist (born May 3, 1975 in Evanston , Illinois ) is an American television presenter . He is best known as the co-host of Morning Joe .

Life

Willie Geist was born in 1975 to writer and journalist Bill Geist and social worker Jody Geist. His younger sister is the producer Libby Geist , who has received the prestigious Peabody Award for her work .

After attending Ridgewood High School, where he distinguished himself as a football and basketball player , Geist studied at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was editor of the student newspaper The Vanderbilt Hustler while studying .

In the late 1990s, Geist began working as an editor and producer for CNN Sports Illustrated, a special-interest broadcaster that broadcasts 24/7 sports programs. This engagement eventually resulted in engagements as a producer and reporter for CNN Sports. In this capacity he reported, among other things, from the Super Bowl and the Masters tournament. In 2004, Geist moved to the cable broadcaster Fox Sports Net as a writer and producer , where he worked on the show I, Max (host: Max Kellerman).

In April 2005, Geist began working for the news channel MSNBC: As a producer, he initially oversaw the program The Situation with Tucker Carlson (moderator: Tucker Carlson ), in which he also moderated a humorous segment ( The Cutting Room Floor ) in which he was in a kind of spoken gloss gave his personal view of current political events, was shown in front of the camera at the end of the broadcast.

At the end of April 2007, Geist was assigned as one of three co-presenters of the program Morning Joe , the second most successful information program on American breakfast television (after Fox and Friends on Fox News ). In addition to Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski , he presents a mix of news coverage, interviews and debates with guests, as well as entertainment and pop culture segments on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.  EST .

In July 2009, in addition to being a Morning Joe co-host, Geist received  his own show, the thirty-minute show Way Too Early with Willie Geist , which airs from 5:30 am to 6:00 pm EST, just before Morning Joe . There is also a satirical video blog entitled “ Zeitgeist ” which can be viewed on MSNBC.com under the slogan “All the News You Cannot Use”.

Geist has been married to Christina Sharkey since May 24, 2003, with whom he has two children: a daughter (born June 14, 2007) and a son (born July 8, 2009).
