Willie Morgan , actually William Morgan (born October 2, 1944 in Glasgow ), is a former Scottish football player who acted in midfield or right winger.

Career

society

Morgan received his first professional contract with Burnley FC , where he was under contract from 1961 to 1968.

After winning the European Champions' Cup in 1968 from Manchester United , the then United manager took Matt Busby Morgan for a record transfer fee of 117,000 £ to the Red Devils , where he by the fans twice in a row (1970 and 1971) the best United player of the year was chosen. But the United team was unsuccessful in those years and even rose to the second division at the end of the 1973/74 season , where Morgan, as the new team captain, led the team to the second division championship of the 1974/75 season and thus to immediate promotion. But for the new 1975/76 season Morgan not only lost his armband, but also his regular seat and therefore returned to Burnley FC.

There he stayed only a few months and soon moved to the Bolton Wanderers , with whom he was under contract from 1976 to 1980 and was loaned to Chicago Sting and the Minnesota Kicks in the game-free phases . In the early 1980s he ended his active career in the service of Blackpool FC .

National team

After Morgan made his first international appearance for the Scottish national team in 1967 , he had to wait until 1972 before he was allowed to play again in the national dress. But in the two years from 1972 to 1974, he came to a total of twenty international duty, with the participation in the World Cup finals in 1974 represented the high point of his international career, where he represented the group matches of the Bravehearts against Brazil (0: 0) and Yugoslavia (1: 1 ) denied.
