Willie and the Poor Boys is a band that Bill Wyman , bassist for the Rolling Stones , started in 1985. The name alludes to the 1969 album Willy and the Poor Boys by Creedence Clearwater Revival .
In a phase when the Rolling Stones worked less together, as Mick Jagger tried more on solo projects, Bill Wyman formed the band. a. his colleague Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones as the drummer and Andy Fairweather Low , who became known for Amen Corner in the 1960s , included.
When recording the only album they were supported by well-known colleagues such as Ray Cooper , Jimmy Page , Willie Garnett, Chris Rea , Steve Gregory, Paul Rodgers , Kenney Jones , Henry Spinetti and Terry Williams .
The musicians Mickey Gee and Geraint Watkins, who also belong to the band, worked as studio musicians. This is how their names appear on Shakin 'Stevens' solo recordings . Mickey Gee also worked on the recordings of Ted Herold . Furthermore, Mickey Gee was temporarily a member of the Sunsets, the band with which Shakin 'Stevens had his first successes.
The proceeds from the sale of the record were donated to the charity ARMS (Action for Research into Multiple Sclerosis) for research into multiple sclerosis . In September 1983, several of the musicians had already played together at a charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the benefit of the same organization. With some of them, Bill Wyman put together his band Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings after he left the Rolling Stones .
A video accompanying the record was also released under the same name.
