Wilhelm "Willy" Hesch , in Czech Vilém "Vilík" Heš , (born July 3, 1860 in Elbeteinitz , Bohemia ; † January 4, 1908 in Vienna ) was an Austrian theater actor and opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Hesch, the son of a farmer, was first a member of wandering Bohemian theater companies, then came to the Czech National Theater in Prague in 1880 and worked there until he occasionally appeared in a guest performance at the International Exhibition Theater in Vienna as "Kezal" in the Bartered Bride and Bernhard Pollini followed him Hamburg caught up with where he stayed for several years. From 1895 he was active as a versatile dramatic bass at the Vienna Court Opera, most recently with the title of chamber singer . His main roles included “ Mephisto ” (in Goethe's Faust ), “Leporello” (in Don Giovanni ), “Sarastro”, “Osmin” and others.

Hesch is considered the oldest German-speaking bass player, whose work has been handed down on record.

Hesch is buried in an honorary grave in the Baumgartner Friedhof (group 15, number 1) in Vienna. In 1955, the Heschweg in Vienna- Penzing and Ottakring (14th and 16th district) was named after him.
