Willy Krienitz

Willy Krienitz (born September 12, 1882 in Dresden , † 1954 in Munich ) was a German music writer and music critic .

Life

Krienitz attended the Realgymnasium in Dresden and then studied music in Munich and Leipzig. From 1902 to 1905 he was private secretary to the Saxon general music director Ernst von Schuch , then from 1906 to 1911 he worked for the Bavarian court opera director Felix Mottl . From 1910, interrupted by his participation in the war from 1914 to 1918, he worked as a music critic and writer. In 1922 he received his doctorate in Leipzig with a literary thesis and then headed the Munich Music Library. After the war he also wrote programs for the Bayreuth Festival .

The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek keeps his music reviews in his estate, which have been preserved in full, mainly in the Münchner Zeitung, but also in the Völkischer Beobachter and which give a wide range of insights into musical life, especially in Munich from 1917 to 1958.
