Willy Loretan (born June 15, 1934 in Basel ; resident in Zofingen and Leukerbad ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ). He represented the canton of Aargau in both the National Council and the Council of States .

biography

The son of the post administrator from Zofingen graduated from the old canton school in Aarau . He then studied law at the University of Lausanne and the University of Zurich from 1950 to 1954 . During his student days he became a member of the Swiss Zofinger Association . In the Swiss Army he had the rank of colonel . After receiving his doctorate in 1961, he worked as a clerk at the Zofingen District Court. In 1964, Loretan was admitted to the bar and moved to the Cantonal Administration of Aargau, where he worked as a legal adjunct in the building department . From 1966 to 1973 he presided over the Zofingen district court.

Loretans political career began in 1966 with the election to the Einwohnerrat of Zofingen. From 1969 to 1981 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau, where he was parliamentary group president of the FDP. From 1974 to 1992 he was mayor of Zofingen. In 1979 he was elected to the National Council, followed in 1991 by the election to the Council of States . Eight years later he retired from politics. Loretan chaired the Swiss Foundation for Landscape Protection from 1982 to 1992 and the Swiss Civil Protection Association from 1996 to 2001.
