Willy Uttendoppler

Willy Uttendoppler (born November 25, 1909 in Bern ; † December 14, 1991 there ) was a Swiss mountaineer , author and photographer .

Life

Uttendoppler trained as a carpenter , did active service in World War II , including as an alpine instructor, and then worked his way up from messenger to cashier at the Berner Kantonalbank . He was a member of the Naturfreunde Tourist Association and the Swiss Alpine Club , in the Alps and on expeditions to, among others, the Caucasus and the Andes , he achieved significant climbs.

Uttendoppler is one of the most important Swiss mountain photographers and mountain climbers. His photographic and written estate, including driver's logs 1930–73, is in the Swiss Alpine Museum in Bern. He was the mountaineering and photographic mentor of the well-known mountaineer and mountain photographer Dölf Reist , third climber of Mount Everest .
