Dölf Travels
Dölf Reist (born March 22, 1921 in Sumiswald ; † October 20, 2000 in Interlaken ) was a Swiss mountaineer and photographer . Together with Hansruedi von Gunten , he achieved the third ascent of Mount Everest on May 24, 1956 .
Life
Reist had already conquered numerous peaks in the Alps. In 1956 he was a member of the Swiss Everest Lhotse Expedition , where he was responsible for equipment and clothing. He was a member of the second rope team on this expedition, which reached the summit just one day after the ascent by Jürg Marmet and Ernst Schmied .
In further expeditions he climbed numerous other peaks on all continents and made a name for himself as an excellent nature photographer. His widow Hildi donated his life's work, comprising 70,000 pictures, to the Swiss Alpine Museum in June 2002 .
