Willy Wittig

Willy Wittig (born April 26, 1902 in Chemnitz , † September 15, 1977 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) was a German painter , graphic artist and illustrator .

Life

Willy Wittig acquired his artistic skills largely self- taught. He worked as a freelancer from 1932 to 1940. From 1940 to 1945 he worked as a commercial clerk. From 1952 to 1962 Wittig taught painting and graphics at the Volkshochschule Karl-Marx-Stadt and from 1950 to 1970 was head of a circle for artistic folk creation . Together with Rudi Gruner , Will Schestak and Gerhard Klampäckel , he designed the new cultural beginning in Karl-Marx-Stadt. Wittig was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR .
