Wilma Scholl

Wilma Scholl (* 7. July 1939 in Kiedrich ) was in the " vintage of the century " in 1959 under her maiden name Wilma Seyer eleventh German wine queen selected.

Her father was an after-work winemaker in Kiedrich and her mother a tailor. She herself worked as an accountant at the sparkling wine producer MM in Eltville am Rhein . She owed her choice of wine queen to a coincidence. The Rheingau Wine Queen of 1959/60, who was in office before her , Elisabeth Korn, wanted to marry at the end of her term of office and could therefore not take part in the election for German Wine Queen according to the provisions of the time, which required unmarried candidates. Wilma Seyer, who had just been elected as her successor, agreed to stand in as a replacement and drove to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse for the election without a prepared acceptance speech because she did not think she had any chances. To everyone's surprise, however, it was chosen. It was the first time that a representative of the Rheingau wore this title.

She was the first German wine queen to officially travel to other European countries as an ambassador for German wine. The trip took her to the wine festival in Jerez , where she spent a week with the family of the Spanish wine queen in Andalusia . The then Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic, Heinrich von Brentano , her and her successors opened these opportunities by having them in the excited by him diplomats Wine Weeks in Kloster Eberbach the diplomatic corps presented.

After her tenure as wine queen, she married the fruit wholesaler Christian Scholl. The marriage had four children, including the doctor Johannes Scholl, who has made a name for himself as a wine author with numerous publications on the subject of wine and health , the internationally sought-after soprano Elisabeth Scholl and the well-known countertenor Andreas Scholl .

After the early death of her second daughter Christine, she began to support the Kinderluftbrücke eV association founded in 1991 by actress Witta Pohl with numerous projects such as family concerts . The organization made it its business to volunteer to help children in need in Eastern Europe. There are now 17 projects in these countries.

In 2008 Wilma Scholl was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for her numerous voluntary services .
