Matheus Müller (born February 25, 1773 in Eltville am Rhein ; † January 10, 1847 there ) was a German sparkling wine manufacturer.

His father, Philipp Müller (1735–1817), like his grandfather Gerhard (1689–1752), was a master cooper in Eltville. His mother, Maria Agnes (1743–1832) was the daughter of the master miller Johann Philipp Baldner from Kiedrich .

He attended the school of Louis Frédéric Garnier and learned his father's craft.

In 1800 he married Dorothea (1775-1813), the daughter of Johann Georg Schell from Höchst, in Eltville. After her death he married her sister Catarina (1773-1856) in Eltville in 1814, with whom he had 13 children, most of whom died early. His son, Matheus d. J. (1802–1870) and grandchildren also became champagne manufacturers.

In 1811 Matheus Müller acquired the former farm of Baron von Sohlern between Schmiedegasse and Leergasse, where he started a wine trade. He bought part of the fortification from the city.

His son Friedrich Franz Müller got to know the bottle fermentation method as a buyer for Mumm & Co. in Champagne. From 1831 he made attempts in the production of sparkling wine. In 1838, two years after Carl Burgeff had success with it, he also started making his Eltville Mousse .

From 1841 to 1843 he was a member of the Nassau Chamber of Deputies for the group of landowners .

In the 1970s, the MM brand was advertised in print media with the slogan “It's written in your hands”, next to the image of an open female palm, the lines of which are traced by the brand's curved letter M.

The Matheus Müller sparkling wine cellars with their MM Extra sparkling wine brand were merged into the Rotkäppchen-Mumm sparkling wine cellars that were established on January 16, 2002 .
