The Winderatter See ( Danish Venerød Sø , also Vinderad Sø and Vinderød Sø ) is a lake in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in the German state Schleswig-Holstein in northern fishing east of the village of Ausacker .

description

On 20 December 1972, the lake was a central part of it surrounding 274.78 hectare nature sanctuary "Winderatter See". It is part of the FHH area from Treene Winderatter See to Friedrichstadt and Bollingstedter Au . The lake is about 24 hectares in size and up to 2.2 m deep and was created during the Vistula glacial period as a shallow channel lake under the melting glacier . In the later Holocene large parts of the lake silted up, u. a. also due to artificial interventions.

topography

The foundation state Winderatter See is located in the eastern hill country of Schleswig-Holstein between Husby (in the north) and Sörup (in the south). The ground moraines formed by the Vistula glacial period are characterized by a flat, undulating relief with heights of 40 to 50 m above sea level and crisscrossed by depressions in a south-westerly direction.

Historical background

Alt-Seegaard Castle was on the north bank in the 13th century . In the small forest on the south bank of the Winderatter See there is an archaeological monument, the Grauburg . From the legendary Grauburg , a silted-up moat and an underwater stone dam on the lake shore can still be seen today, which according to tradition led to Alt-Seegard Castle on the north shore.

In the Kielstau valley area on the eastern edge of the village of Ausacker, a water mill was operated from 1487 to 1845. Only then was the lake level lowered by around 2 m to its current height of 37.3 mm above sea level. So-called king stones from the reign of the Danish King Christian VIII (1839–1848) still document the old shoreline today .

Biological Diversity

The hilly landscape shows a great variety of natural spaces in a relatively small area.

Since 1989 the Foundation for Nature Conservation of the State of Schleswig-Holstein has acquired most of the lake and the surrounding areas in order to maintain and develop the area for nature conservation in accordance with the statutes.
