The windmill Bavenhausen is a mill on the Wind Mountain in the district Bavenhausen the East Westphalian municipality Kalletal in Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The mill is protected as an architectural monument.
description
The windmill in Bavenhausen is a mill of the Erdholländer type , which was built from broken sandstones from the area. Originally the mill had louvre blades and was equipped with two grinding aisles for rye, later barley and wheat were also ground. From 1910 onwards, an internal combustion engine was installed as an additional driving force in order to be able to grind even when there was no wind. In the 1920s the rotating cap of the mill was fitted with a compass rose .
history
The mill was built in 1853 by the carpenter Friedrich Wilhelm Freitag and then operated by him as a miller. More than four generations of the Freitag family worked in the mill until the grinding operations were shut down in 1948. With the shutdown, the mill's blades and wind rose were also dismantled. In 1954 the municipality of Bavenhausen bought the empty mill building and installed an elevated tank inside for the water supply to the area. Since 1968 the no longer functional mill has been equipped with wings ( dummies ) again , financed by private donations and public funds. As part of the regional reform of 1969, the mill became the property of the municipality of Kalletal. 2014, the windmill has been extensively renovated and from the outside with wood verschindelt .
