Winfried Becker (historian)

Winfried Becker (born November 2, 1941 in Merzig ) is a German historian .

Becker studied history and German in Saarbrücken . After the first state examination in 1967, he continued his studies at the University of Bonn . There he was awarded a doctorate by Konrad Repgen in 1971 with a study on the Electoral Council. phil. PhD . 1979 followed at the University of Regensburg with a thesis inspired by Dieter Albrecht on Georg von Hertling, the habilitation in modern and recent history. From 1967 to 1972 he was a research assistant at the Association for Research into Modern History in Bonn, from 1973 to 1977 assistant at the historical seminar of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , from 1977 to 1979 assistant at the historical seminar at the University of Regensburg and from 1980 to 1980 1983 research assistant at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Sankt Augustin . In 1984 he was appointed to the chair for modern and contemporary history at the University of Passau . In 2007 he retired. Becker is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Commission for Contemporary History .
