Winfried Hümpfner (born August 4, 1889 in Aidhausen ; † November 3, 1962 ) was a German Augustinian , Medievalist and parapsychologist .

life and work

Hümpfner entered the Order of the Augustinian Hermits (OESA) in 1909 and was ordained a priest in 1914. He studied theology at the University of Würzburg and received his doctorate in 1930. From 1931 to 1947 he was in the service of the order leadership in Rome.

In the process of the beatification of Anna Katharina Emmerick , Hümpfner provided evidence in a scientific study of the credibility of Clemens Brentano's records in 1923 that Brentano's records did not match Emmerick's visions, whereupon the process was discontinued in 1928 and only reopened in 1973. Hümpfner was a recognized researcher in the field of religiously motivated visions and parapsychology .

Winfried Hümpfner must not be confused with the Cistercian monk Tiburtius Hümpfner .
