Winfried Heurich (born February 13, 1940 in Neuhof (near Fulda) ) is a German organist and composer .

Life

From 1962 to the beginning of 2000 Heurich worked as organist and choirmaster at the Liebfrauenkirche in Frankfurt am Main . In 1968 he composed a Latin mass, which was premiered by his choir. The publisher sent the submitted material back with a valuable recommendation: The editor praised the beautiful melodies and recommended setting German texts to music, because now after the council new, contemporary songs are needed. So in 1973 he published Ganz nah ist dein Wort with new texts by Huub Oosterhuis and Lothar Zenetti .

In 1978 he met the young Eugen Eckert by chance while playing volleyball. Eckert had been playing Neue Geistliche Lieder with his music group HABAKUK for some time and wrote the lyrics himself. A close collaboration and friendship soon developed.

Winfried Heurich has been teaching at the Frankfurt University of Music since 1986. From 1974 to 2000 he was also the managing director of the “Church Music and Youth Pastoral Care” working group in the Diocese of Limburg . His main concern as a composer is to write "singable and swinging songs".

At the worldwide competition of the New Spiritual Song in Rome in 1983, The Lord will bless you with his goodness was voted the best German contribution. Heurich also composed the official song of the 1998 Catholic Day in Mainz ( snow melts , text: Eugen Eckert). He was a member of the lyricists and composers group TAKT .
