Winfried Kettler (* 1936 in Germany) is a German-Swiss graphic artist and panorama painter who lives in Oftringen , Canton Aargau , Switzerland . He became famous for his painted panorama maps of hiking and skiing areas.

Life

At the age of 22, Winfried Kettler emigrated to Switzerland in 1958 and stayed for a long time in Meiringen in the Bernese Oberland . At the time, Switzerland was a leader in typography and graphics. In 1963, when he was employed as a graphic designer in a print shop, Kettler got to know the alpine panorama and was fascinated by it. The encounter with the Austrian Heinrich C. Berann , the undisputed master of panorama painting, was the decisive factor in 1978 to work as a freelance map painter. The rising hiking and ski tourism brought Kettler many orders from well-known holiday resorts all over the world. He has lived in Oftringen since 2011.

Kettler created his detailed panorama maps for dozen of holiday resorts in Switzerland (including Engelberg , Kandersteg , Zermatt , Davos , the Val d'Anniviers and Lake Lucerne ) and also numerous abroad such as Vancouver , Provence , Portes du Soleil , Black Forest , Gran Canaria and Corsica . Without exception, Kettler painted all of his panoramas by hand. The originals are kept by the Zurich Central Library.
