Winfried Völlger (born November 5, 1947 in Halle ) is a German artist and writer . He was one of the more important novelists in the GDR .

Life

After attending the ten-class general high school, Völlger first learned to be a photographer, then after completing his military service he did his Abitur and studied mathematics in Halle from 1968 to 1973 without completing his studies. As an artist he was self-taught and after 1973 worked primarily as a freelance writer, but also as a director , graphic artist and sculptor. In addition to several books for children and young people, he published several essays and novels for adults, with which he made an important contribution to the non-conformist GDR literature at the time. Some of his books could only appear years later or after the fall of the Wall. At the invitation of the PEN Club Francaise, he toured Paris and southern France in 1986 and 1987 . All in all, his books had a total circulation of around one million. Particularly noteworthy is his novel Das Windhahn Syndrome (1983). Today it is largely forgotten.

Since 1994 he has been increasingly involved in visual work and designs sculptures and graphics. Exhibitions of his works took place in several cities, including Halle, Rome, Katlenburg , Halberstadt , Ludwigsburg , Leipzig and Freyburg (Unstrut) . In 1996, his hometown Halle awarded him the Stadtschreiber grant of the city of Halle. In 1997 he was guest of honor at the Deutsche Akademie Villa Massimo in Rome and in 2000 he received a scholarship from the Cranach-Höfe zu Wittenberg . At the International Sculptor Symposium 2000 in the Buchdorf Mühlbeck , he won first prize. The publisher Piatnik (Vienna) has been producing the linguistic card game Wortmeister since 1998 .

Völlger was also active in education and between 1992 and 2004 took on teaching assignments ( creative writing , cultural history), especially for the Merseburg University of Applied Sciences and the private education and research institute of Prof. Hans-Georg Mehlhorn in Leipzig (advanced training for creativity teachers, a total of around four thousand seminar hours ).

From 2006 to 2011 he studied musicology (minor in theater studies) at the University of Leipzig and obtained his bachelor's degree in 2009 and his master's degree in 2011 (with a thesis on the physiology of the chants of South Siberian nomads - overtone and throat singing).
