Winfried Wehle

Winfried Wehle (born February 14, 1940 in Sindelfingen ) is a German Romance scholar , literary scholar and columnist . The em. Professor for Romance and General Literature at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt is chairman of the German Dante Society .

Life

Wehle studied Romance studies, German studies and philosophy in Tübingen, at the Sorbonne and in Urbino . He received his doctorate in 1971 in Tübingen with a thesis on the Nouveau Roman (Strasbourg Prize) and completed his habilitation - after working as an assistant director at Südwestrundfunk - in Bonn in 1978 with a study of French and Italian Renaissance novellistics. In the same year he was appointed to the chair for Romance and General Literature at the University of Eichstätt, which he will continue to hold after his retirement in 2008. He has also been a member of the literary research group Romance Studies Colloquium since 1978 and was visiting professor at the Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici in Naples in 1999 . In 2010 he was visiting professor at the University of Bonn .

He has been a columnist for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung since 1992 .
