Coordinates: 34 ° 33 '  S , 150 ° 22'  O Wingecarribee Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 2,689.3 km² and has about 48,000 inhabitants.

Wingecarribee is located in the Illawarra region of the state about 120 km southwest of the metropolis of Sydney and 160 km northeast of the Australian capital Canberra . The area includes 70 hamlets and towns, including Balmoral Village, Berrima, Bowral, Bundanoon, Burradoo, Burrawang, Colo Vale, Exeter, Fitzroy Falls, Hill Top, Mittagong , Penrose, Robertson, Sutton Forest, Willow Vale, Wingello, Yerrinbool and one Part of Buxton. The seat of the Shire Council is in the village of Moss Vale in the center of the LGA, where about 7,900 inhabitants live.

Wingecarribee Shire Council has 12 members elected by LGA residents. Wingecarribee is not divided into districts. The mayor of the Shire is recruited from among the councilors, the councilors.

The residents of Bundanoon were probably the first community in the world to ban the sale of water in bottles.
