Winifred Land

Winifred Land was an English table tennis player . She won a total of four bronze medals at the World Championships in 1926 and 1928.

Career

Very little is known about Winifred Land.

In 1926 she took part in the first ever World Championship in London. At that time there was only single and mixed competition for women, doubles and team fights were not held. In the singles she defeated G. Mc Cosh (England) and Joan Ingram (England), then lost the semifinals against the later world champion Mária Mednyánszky from Hungary. In mixed with her compatriot HABennett, she won against RH Berry / Kathleen M. Berry (England) and HL Morgan / K. Beaufoy (England), but then missed the finals due to a defeat against Roland Jacobi / G. Gleeson (Hungary / England).

At the next World Cup in Stockholm in 1928 , a double competition for women was offered for the first time. Here the pair Winifred Land / Joan Ingram advanced one round without a fight and then failed in the semifinals to Mária Mednyánszky / Fanchette Flamm (Hungary / Austria). In mixed she competed with Fred Perry (England). After a first round without a fight, they defeated Robert Thum / Fanchette Flamm (Austria), but then did not take part in the semi-finals. In the individual, she was eliminated immediately against the Hungarian and future world champion Mária Mednyánszky.

At the Open Championships in England she came first three times, namely in 1927/28 in doubles with Brenda Sommerville, 1928/29 in mixed with Fred Perry and 1929/30 with Magda Gál (Hungary) in doubles. With Fred Perry she also came fourth at the International German Championships in Berlin in 1927/28 .

After that, she no longer appeared internationally.
