Career

Very little is known about Joan Ingram.

In 1926 she took part in the first ever World Championship in London. At that time there was only single and mixed competition for women, doubles and team fights were not held. In the individual, she came on in the first round without a fight and then lost in the quarter-finals to Winifred Land . In mixed at the side of her compatriot George Ross, she also reached the quarter-finals without a fight, before they were eliminated by the Hungarian-English couple Roland Jacobi / G. Gleeson (ENG).

At the next World Cup in Stockholm in 1928 , a double competition for women was offered for the first time. Only five couples competed here. Here came Winifred Country / Joan Ingram without a fight the next round and then failed in the semifinals of Mária Mednyánszky / Fanchette flame (Hungary / Austria). In mixed she competed with Charles Bull (England). After beating Folke Johansson / Carin Westberg (Sweden), they reached the semi-finals without a fight, where they failed to Zoltán Mechlovits / Mária Mednyánszky. In the singles she won against Margyl Brandt (Sweden) and Fanchette Flamm (Austria). This was again enough for bronze. She missed the final when she lost to future world champion Mária Mednyánszky (Hungary).

Joan Ingram was less successful in her third and last participation in the 1929 World Cup . She won the singles against Varga (Hungary) and then lost to the Austrian Josefine Kolbe . In doubles, she signed up with the Englishwoman Ann Haydon , where she made it through the first round without a fight, but did not start the next round. The mixed pairing Charles Bull / Ingram (England) defeated Erno Földi / Rosenberg (Hungary) and lost to Manfred Feher / Lili Forbath (Austria).

At the Open Championships of England she came in 1926/27 in doubles with Doris Gubbins and in mixed with Lionel Farris in first place. In 1927/28 she was third in the individual at the International German Championships in Berlin.

In late 1928, Joan Ingram was ranked fifth in the ITTF world rankings .

After that she no longer appeared internationally in the table tennis scene. From 1932 to 1939 she played tennis at Wimbledon, then again in 1947.
