The Winkeltalbach , called Schrentebach in the headwaters area , is a brook in the municipality of Auservillgraten ( Lienz district ). It flows through the largely uninhabited Winkeltal valley in the Villgraten Mountains and flows into the Villgratenbach at Ausservillgraten . The water of the Villgratenbach is used for a diversion power plant.

course

The headwaters of the Winkeltalbach are located in the Villgraten Mountains between the peaks of Rotegg, Wagenstein, Großes Degenhorn, Kugelwand and Hochgrabe. The source streams of the water in the upper reaches of the Schrentebach originate from mountain slopes such as Wilde Platte, Schrentebachboden or as an outflow from Degenhornsee. The Schrentebach then flows to the Heinkaralm and Volkzeineralm before it branches off in a south-easterly direction at the Volkzeiner Hütte and from here bears the name Winkeltalbach. At the Lackenkammeralm, after the confluence of the Serlbach, the Winkeltalbach swings to the east before flowing in an arc to the south through the Winkelbach valley. The Winkeltalbach flows into the Villgratenbach in the center of Ausservillgraten.

Energy use

In order to use the water of the Winkeltalbach for energy purposes, construction of a diversion power plant began in April 2016. For this purpose, water is diverted from the Winkeltalbach by means of a Tyrolean weir at the Gasthaus Reiterstube and directed through a 4.4 kilometer long pressure pipe towards the village of Ausservillgraten, where a power plant has been built on the outskirts. The diversion power plant has an expansion water volume of 1.5 m³ / s, the gross head is 222 meters. The power plant has a machine set with a bottleneck capacity of 2.6 MW. From mid-2017, 11.1 GWh of electricity will be produced per year. The project costs for the community power station total ten million euros, of which 1.6 million euros were funded by the federal government.
