Stadtbus Winterthur (until June 2004 Winterthurer Verkehrsbetriebe , until 1983 Verkehrsbetriebe Winterthur , until 1940 Stadtische Strassenbahn Winterthur , until 1900 Winterthur – Töss ) is the municipal transport company of the city of Winterthur founded on July 13, 1898 and belongs to the Department of Technical Operations ( DTB ). The company is integrated into the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV) and operates ten city, four intercity and five night lines in Winterthur and the surrounding area. With almost 300 employees and over 90 vehicles, Stadtbus Winterthur transports around 27.5 million passengers annually.

Between 1938 and 1951, the trolleybus gradually replaced the Winterthur tram operated by the same company . After the trolleybus in Lausanne , it was the second modern trolleybus operator in Switzerland.
Bus
After horse buses of the Tram-Omnibus-Genossenschaft Winterthur drove through the city between July 1, 1895 and April 12, 1897 , the first motorized buses operated from Winterthur to Rosenberg on February 20, 1931. Three cars were required for this. This was preceded by a political debate, as a result of which the electorate on April 6, 1930 preferred the bus to the further expansion of the tram.
In October 1963, the regional bus line from the Winterthur town hall to Zurich Airport went into operation .
The Waldheim – Grüzefeld – Oberwinterthur – Rychenberg bus route was opened on November 20, 1967. It was discontinued on October 21, 1974, and at the same time the new bus route Steig – Hauptbahnhof – Grüzefeld – Pfaffenwiesen went into operation.
On June 1, 1980, was the airport line of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) in operation since then, the airport during times of low traffic volume, only the local opening up on the route Winterthur Bassersdorf safe.
On May 8, 1982, the express bus line 12 to the Technorama in Oberwinterthur was opened, which was served by double-decker buses. Line 7 Lindenplatz – Eichliacker and the Hauptbahnhof – Oberseen line were also newly opened.
In 1983, when the company was renamed again, a new corporate identity was introduced. The station square was redesigned in 1984 and the covered bus station was built, since then the central hub of the Winterthur local transport network.
Line 9 Moosacker – Hegi was opened on November 1, 1986. The new line Steig – Lindenplatz via the center of Töss (line 8) was opened on October 30, 1987 due to changes in the route. Line 10 between the main train station and Oberwinterthur via Rychenberg was opened on October 28, 1989.
On May 27, 1990 the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV) was founded.
In June 2004 the Winterthurer Verkehrsbetriebe was renamed Stadtbus Winterthur. At the same time, a new logo and new uniforms were introduced.
In December 2006, lines 5 and 13 were connected to the new cross-city line 5, whereby line 13 Hauptbahnhof – Dättnau disappeared. At the same time as the completion of the new station, line 14 Hauptbahnhof – Hegi station was opened.
When the timetable changed in December 2008, Tangentiallinie 8 (Steig / Dättnau – Lindenplatz) was canceled. For this, the bus line 5 now travels via Rosenau-Zentrum Töss to the train station and more frequent intervals have been made on line 7, which now runs to Niederfeld and, from 2010, with the completion of a connecting road to Wülflingen train station . Line 15 (Hegifeld – Bahnhof Hegi – Hegifeld) was also reopened. In addition, line 681 (Winterthur HB – Eidberg (–Schlatt near Winterthur)) was canceled, this line is compensated for by line 9, which now only runs to Seen station .
Since mid-March 2011 (opening of the Rosenberg shopping center) there has been a new regional line 674, which runs from the main train station via Rosenberg to Seuzach. Line 676 (Winterthur – Rutschwil – Henggart) has been running every half hour since then.
Lines 4 and 11 have been running on a new route since construction work began on the new station square. Line 4 runs directly via the Storchenbrücke bus stop to Breite, while line 11 now goes to Steig via Storchenbrücke and Tössfeld. Line 11 is now running regularly and there is a new stop on the way to the Storchenbrücke, Wylandbrücke.
With the timetable change in December 2018 , line 11 was canceled. This line is compensated by line 660, which now runs over the Tössfeld. Line 7 was also merged with line 14. Line 7 now runs from Wülflingen station via the main station to Chli-Hegi with a new route in Hegi.
The alignment of line 9 has been adjusted. All stops will now be served in both directions until the end of operation.
City lines 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 have additional early connections. In addition, the lines 5, 7, 9 and 10 have been compressed.
The regional line 667 to Neftenbach will be canceled and compensated for with line 674, which now runs from Pfungen via Neftenbach and Winterthur HB to Seuzach.
The regional line 610 now runs in both directions on the Wiesendangen, Bahnhof –Wasserfuri - Attikerstrasse - parish hall. The Leingrüebler stop has been canceled.
Regional line 611 now ends at Wiesendangen train station or at the Gundetswil schoolhouse. The route in the village of Wiesendangen has been adapted to line 610.
For all regional lines, the range has been condensed or even added.

The Winterthur trolley and bus lines are operated exclusively with low-floor vehicles. While only articulated vehicles operate on the trolleybus lines , these are normally only used on the bus lines 5 and 7. Solo cars run on the other bus lines .

Night buses
Some of the night buses of the ZVV night network from Winterthur main station are operated by Stadtbus Winterthur. On the nights from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday they run every hour between 1:30 and 4:30 a.m. Since the last regular buses leave the main station at around 1:00 a.m. and the first regular buses leave from 5:30 a.m., there is continuous traffic on the weekend. However, the night lines only serve their routes out of town.
