The Wirtschaftskundliches Bundesrealgymnasium Salzburg (WRG Salzburg) is a general higher education school (AHS - educational system in Austria ) in the state capital Salzburg .

When it opened in 1955, the building complex on Josef-Preis-Allee was originally designed as a school center for two schools, namely the Bundesrealgymnasium for girls with the women's high school (both should be in the same complex) and the teacher training institute ( LBA ).

location

The school is located in the Salzburg district Nonntal in the Josef-Preis-Allee in a building complex with two other schools, the BORG Nonntal (upper level secondary school) and the European and Federal High School Salzburg-Nonntal (BG Nonntal).

The Faculty of Culture and Humanities of the University of Salzburg is located directly opposite the WRG ( Unipark Nonntal ).

In addition, not far from Josef-Preis-Allee in Akademiestraße there are other school facilities, such as the BRG Salzburg and the Sport -RG / Musisches RG / SSM Salzburg. Furthermore, the ARGE Salzburg and the sports field Mitte of the Sportunion Salzburg, which is used by the WRG as part of gymnastics lessons, are only a few meters away from the school.

The school is easily accessible by public transport in the city of Salzburg thanks to the direct connection of the trolleybuses from the Salzburg Transport Association ( lines 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and the bus lines 25 and 27 of the Albus Salzburg transport company) . Bike racks in front of the school also allow you to get there by bike.

history

Foundation and time as a girls' school

The original concept of running the WRG (at that time BRG with a women's high school) as a uniform school was given up when the school center started teaching in 1956. The Frauenoberschule (FOS) was spun off from the BRG for girls and was run as its own school (from 1962 under the name Wirtschaftskundliches Realgymnasium for girls).

2 schools become 3

As a result of this spin-off of the women's high school, there were from now on 3 different schools in the federal school center. However, due to the original planning of two schools, there were only two main entrances.

An emergency solution had to be found for the Wirtschaftskundliches Realgymnasium, but it was to last for over 40 years. A basement entrance was used as the main entrance to the building. This entrance still exists today, but there is a "real" main entrance that was built in the course of the construction phases from the mid-1990s.

As a result of various school reforms, the teacher training institute first became the music-pedagogical secondary school for girls and later the federal upper level secondary school and the federal secondary school for girls became the nonntal federal high school (European high school).

Over time, the three schools also became co-educational.

Due to the large influx of students, the question of space very soon became a very big problem and so the Wirtschaftskundliches Realgymnasium had displaced classes in the Anif elementary school for more than 20 years.

The pupils taught there took the normal way to school on Josef-Preis-Allee and were brought from there by bus to Anif and back again after class.

In the mid-1990s, a solution for the acute shortage of space was finally implemented in the Federal School Center Josef-Preis-Allee. The old buildings were renovated on behalf of the Federal Real Estate Company and new wings were added.

Last construction phase

The final construction phase began in July 2003. Three new gyms and a community building in which there is a school library (which is used by all 3 schools) and a buffet were built. The WRG gym has been in use since September 2004; the rest of the construction work was completed by the end of November 2004. The equipment for the buffet and library was delivered and installed in spring 2005. The parents' association of the WRG Salzburg also created new, comfortable furniture for the students in the large auditorium in 2012.

On May 31, 2005, the new buildings were officially handed over to the three schools as part of a ceremony. This completed the overall project of renovations and extensions for the federal schools in Josef-Preis-Allee, which began in 1996.

Due to the new building, a completely redesigned schoolyard with atrium and the accessible roof terraces of the gyms, which offer a wonderful view of the Nonnberg Abbey and the Hohensalzburg Fortress, are available to the students during breaks and free periods . In the communal building there is a particularly friendly atmosphere thanks to the large glass facade facing the schoolyard. Since September 2005, students have been able to have a warm lunch in the buffet and also use the library. Due to the change of the buffet operator a few years ago, a healthy buffet was offered from now on.

50 years of WRG

In 2006 the WRG celebrated under you. Oskar Einzinger celebrates its 50th anniversary as an independent school. On this occasion, a ceremony took place in the auditorium of the University of Salzburg, in which the former Governor of Salzburg, Mag. Gabi Burgstaller , also took part. The history and diverse activities of the WRG were documented in a very extensive commemorative publication.
