Helga Rabl-Stadler (born June 2, 1948 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian politician , entrepreneur and has been president of the Salzburg Festival since 1995 .

Life

Rabl-Stadler is the daughter of the longstanding ORF general manager Gerd Bacher , studied law, journalism and political science and was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD . Until 1974 she worked as a journalist for the press and the weekly press . Between 1974 and 1978 she was the first female journalist to write a domestic policy column for the Kurier .

From 1983 to 2008 she was co-owner of the Resmann fashion house in Salzburg. From 1983 to 1990 (XVI. And XVII. Legislative period) and again briefly from 7 to 30 November 1994 (XIX. Legislative period) she was a member of the National Council for the Austrian People's Party . Here she campaigned for flexible working hours, a liberalization of shop opening times and better tax law conditions for sponsors.

From 1985 she was Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce for Salzburg , from 1988 its President. From 1991 to 1995 she was federal deputy chairman of the ÖVP.

On January 26, 1995, she was appointed President of the Salzburg Festival and resigned from all political functions. Most recently, her contract was extended to the end of September 2020. During her presidency Gerard Mortier worked as artistic director until 2001 , Peter Ruzicka from 2002 , Jürgen Flimm from 2007 , Markus Hinterhäuser in 2011 and Alexander Pereira from 2012 to 2014 . Sven-Eric Bechtolf was appointed on an interim basis for 2015 and 2016, and Markus Hinterhäuser for the period 2017 to 2021.

Helga Rabl-Stadler was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation sent by the Federal Government , but left the board on April 22, 2010 at her own request.

Helga Rabl-Stadler was married to the former Kurier editor-in-chief Peter Rabl and has two children.
