Vitaly Puchkalo ( Kazakh Виталия Пухкало ; born September 9, 1992 ) is a Kazakh cross-country skier .

Career

From 2014 to 2018, Puchkalo mainly took part in national races and FIS races . Internationally, he started for the first time at the U23 World Championships in Almaty in 2015 , finishing 42nd in the sprint and 37th in the 15 km freestyle. In January 2017 he completed his first races in the Eastern Europe Cup in Minsk . He achieved second place over 15 km freestyle. The following month he made his debut in Otepää in the World Cup and achieved 44th place over 15 km classic. At the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty, he won the silver medal with the relay. In March 2017, at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti, he took 47th place over 15 km classic, 46th place in skiathlon and 39th place in 50 km mass start race. His best placings at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang were 34th place in the skiathlon and eighth place in the relay. In March 2018, Puchkalo became the Kazakh champion in the 15 km freestyle and skiathlon in Shchuchinsk . In December 2018 he got his first World Cup points in Beitostølen with the 26th place over 30 km freestyle. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol , he ran on 50th place over 15 km classic, 48th place in the skiathlon and seventh place with the relay. In March 2019, Puchkalo became the Kazakh champion in the 50 km mass start race in Shchuchinsk. At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, he took his first victory in the Eastern Europe Cup in Shchuchinsk over 10 km freestyle and came 44th in the Ruka Triple. This was followed by eight places in the points, including 22nd place in the ski tour and thus achieved 47th place in the overall World Cup.
