Vitaly Georgievich Smirnov
Vitaly Georgijewitsch Smirnow ( Russian Виталий Георгиевич Смирнов ; born February 14, 1935 in Khabarovsk ) is a Russian sports official.
Life
From 1971 to 2016 Smirnov was a full member of the International Olympic Committee . Since then he has been an honorary member.
Between 1968 and 1970 Smirnov was the first secretary of the Pushkino CPSU City Committee . From 1970 to 1975 he was deputy chairman of the Committee on Physical Culture and Sport of the USSR. From 1981 to 1990 he was chairman of the Committee on Physical Culture and Sport of the RSFSR.
From 1990 to 1992 he was President of the Soviet National Olympic Committee. From 1992 to 2001 he was President of the Russian National Olympic Committee .
