Wittern (noble family)
The von Wittern (also Witte , Wittem , Witterda and Witterde ) are an old, Thuringian , still flourishing noble family, with ancestral seat in Witterda near Erfurt .
history
First called in 1143 with Wernherus de Withera, known as ministerialis . In connection with the medieval residential tower in Wandersleben , a miles ("knight") Theodoricus de Witterde is mentioned as a witness in a document. In 1329 a Henricus von Witterde vice dominus becomes the castle of Gleichen. The family called themselves "von Witterde" until the middle of the 15th century. The progenitor is supposed to be Heinrich von Wittern, who was mentioned in 1407 and enfeoffed with the knight seat Dietendorf . In the Erfurt-Arnstadt region, among other things, in Klettstedt , Saufeld , Bad Tennstedt , Dietendorf, Mühlberg , Tannroda and around Bad Langensalza , Wandersleben and Wundersleben (from 1556) wealthy. In Wandersleben, Caspar Melchior von Witterde was mentioned for the last time in 1631. The von Wittern family played an important role until the beginning of the 18th century. The tombstone of Noble Andreas von Wittern from 1559 in the Dietendorfer Sankt-Johannis-Kirche bears witness to this .
