Vyacheslav Ivanovich Sof ( Russian Вячеслав Иванович Зоф ; * December 1889 in Dubno , Volhynia Governorate ; † June 20, 1937 in Moscow ) was a Soviet functionary , military and from 1924 to 1926 commander-in-chief of the Soviet naval fleet .

Life

Sof, who was of Czech nationality, participated in the revolutionary movement from 1910 and became a member of the Russian Social Democratic Workers' Party (RSDLP (B)) in 1913 . During the First World War he worked as a locksmith in a Sestrorezker arms factory, where he headed a Bolshevik underground organization. After the February Revolution of 1917 he led the Bolsheviks of Sestrorezks and was a member of the Petrograd Soviet of Workers and Peasants. On the instructions of the Central Committee of the RSDLP (B), he organized VI Lenin's illegal trip under the name of KP Ivanov from Petrograd to Razliv in July 1917 and then maintained Lenin's connection with the Central Committee.

In 1918 he joined the Red Army and was commissioner of a brigade of the 29th Rifle Division during the civil war until 1919. He then became head of supply for the 3rd Army on the Eastern Front. From 1919 to 1920 he was a member of the Revolutionary War Council of the Baltic Fleet and the Defense Committee of Petrograd. In February 1920 Sof found a job as commissioner of the main administration and head of the main political administration for water transport. From November 1920 Sof was an assistant to the Commander in Chief of the Naval Forces of the RSFSR responsible for technical questions and became a member of the Council for War Industry. From 1921 to 1924 he worked as a commissioner for the commander-in-chief of the naval forces of the RSFSR and then until 1926 as the chief and commissioner of the naval fleet. During this time he was a member of the Revolutionary War Council of the USSR .

From 1927 Sof held the function of chairman of the Soviet merchant fleet management and in the same year became a member of the College of the People's Commissariat for Transport of the USSR and from 1930 to 1931 its deputy chairman. After serving as deputy chairman of the People's Commissariat for Water Transport, he was appointed director of the Moscow Compressor Factory .

Sof fell victim to the Great Terror . He was arrested on December 20, 1936 and on June 19, 1937 accused by the War College of the Supreme Court of the USSR of "membership in anti-Soviet terrorist organizations" and sentenced to death by shooting . The execution took place on June 20, 1937. His ashes were buried in the Donskoi cemetery .

On February 22, 1956, Sof was fully rehabilitated by the military tribunal of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR .
