Vladimir Nikolayevich Ipatiev
Vladimir Ipatieff ( Russian Владимир Николаевич Ипатьев , after emigrating under the name Vladimir Ipatiev ; also Ipatieff, born November 9 . Jul / 21st November 1867 greg. In Moscow ; † 29. November 1952 in Chicago , Illinois) was a Russian Chemist.
biography
Ipatiev was a professor in Saint Petersburg from 1898 . Before the October Revolution , he was Lieutenant General in the Tsarist Army and a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences . After the revolution, Ipatiev established several chemical research centers in the USSR . In 1923 he was elected a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences . In 1929 he received the Lenin Prize . In 1930 he left the Soviet Union and accepted a chair at Northwestern University in Chicago. There he also worked as an industrial chemist for the Universal Oil Products Company .
He worked in the fields of heterogeneous catalysis, explosives, petrochemicals and high pressure chemistry.
In 1897 Ipatjew produced isoprene . In 1904 he constructed the Ipatjew bomb named after him , an autoclave.
In 1939 Ipatyev was elected to the National Academy of Sciences , in 1940 he received the Willard Gibbs Medal .
