Wladimir Ivanovich Karassjow ( Russian Владимир Иванович Карасёв ; with the World Chess Federation FIDE Vladimir Karasev; born June 17, 1938 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg); † July 9, 2021 ibid) was a Russian chess player .

Life

Karasev celebrated his first successes when he did military service in the GSSD . In 1960 he shared second place behind Eduard Gufeld at the Championship of the Soviet Armed Forces in Riga . At the Leningrad city championship in 1965 he was shared first with Vadim Faibissowitsch and received the title of Master of Sports of the USSR . In 1974 Karassev won the Leningrad City Championship with 10.5 points out of 15. He played three times in the finals of the individual championship of the USSR : 1967, 1970 and 1971. His best result was a shared 15th place in 1971 in Leningrad with victories over Dawid Bronstein ,Igor Platonov , Leonid Shamkowitsch and Roman Dzindzichashvili . In August 1974 Karassjow won the XII. Rubinstein memoriał in Polanica-Zdrój and thus fulfilled a GM standard. In 1976 he was awarded the title of International Master , the missing norm he had earned at a tournament in Albena in the same year.

Karasev, who was employed with the rank of Praporschtschiks in the military academy of the telecommunications corps , was in 2001, 2002 and 2004 the Russian single champion of the seniors . He took part in several senior world championships. In 2005 he was fifth in Lignano, Italy , tied with his third-placed compatriot Yevgeny Vasyukov . With the team from Saint Petersburg (Faibissowitsch, Karassjow, Nikolai Mishutschkow , Wiktor Turikow and Yuri Jakowlew) he won the Senior World Team Championship (over 65 years of age) in Vilnius in 2014 . The following year he was with Saint Petersburg first at the European senior team championship in Vienna .

With his best Elo rating of 2515, he was 74th in the world rankings in January 1977.
